The Sound Machine Reopens!

in News by Gareth Peebles

We’re looking forward to welcoming you all back to The Sound Machine on Monday to enjoy our newly replenished stock, which has been sat, waiting patiently for you to come and snatch it up throughout lockdown! It’s going to be great to catch up with some familiar faces and welcome back a bit of normality to our lives.

It’s been a strange ol’ year so far, but you can learn more about what we’ve been up to and what we have planned by keeping your eyes peeled for our upcoming press release in the Reading Chronicle and Berkshire Live, or you can read below.

See you on Monday Sound Machinists!

Reading’s oldest record shop, The Sound Machine welcomes back record enthusiasts this Monday after a difficult winter on lockdown.

The Sound Machine, situated in the eccentric, boutique shopping area of Harris Arcade, Reading, is excited to welcome back crate diggers, vinyl junkies and music enthusiasts next week (MON 12 APR) after its latest, prolonged period of closure due to CV19 restrictions.

Specialising in second-hand records for music lovers of all tastes, Reading’s longest serving record shop has used the time on lockdown to stock up on new collections of classic albums and hard to find rarities, ready for the return of excited customers keen to support local businesses.

“We’ve been supplying Reading with great music for thirty years now and have built up a loyal following of brilliant customers who enjoy the experience of coming in for a browse and having a chat, which I think we have all missed during lockdown!”

With the closure of all “non-essential” shops prioritised during both lockdowns, it has been a tough year for The Sound Machine who have continued to pay rent on a property that has not been generating income.

“We don’t have an online store so we really depend on Reading’s vinyl junkies making the effort to come into the shop and support our independent business. We can’t wait to welcome all of our regulars back…and hopefully a few new record enthusiasts who have picked up the hobby during lockdown.”

Post-lockdown, safety continues to be a top priority and TSM will be employing a number of Covid-safe measures to ensure the safety of customers and staff, including a capped number of shoppers, social distancing, hand sanitiser and PPE for staff.

Looking ahead, The Sound Machine will not be taking part in this year’s Record Store Day(s), choosing instead to champion their own, hugely popular, Vintage Vinyl Day. Offering an amazing opportunity for collectors to access the cream of the crop in vintage vinyl, ‘A grade’ stock and rarities, sure to get the pulses racing of all vinyl vultures and music lovers in Reading.

The Sound Machine reopens to the public on MON 12 APR. Dates for Vintage Vinyl Day tbc.
